Plan to assassinate Ruto was absolutely real – Itumbi
By Nancy Marende, October 9, 2025Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi has reignited claims that a 2019 plot to assassinate then–Deputy President William Ruto was real, insisting that he possesses video evidence and court records supporting his claim.
Speaking during an interview on the Iko Nini podcast on October 9, 2025, Itumbi maintained that the meeting at a Nairobi hotel, where senior government officials discussed plans to stop Ruto’s presidential ambitions, was not a fabrication.

“It is absolutely factual. I have videos. I stood in court. The then [police] boss opposed. Those matters are in court, and the file is in court. In fact, there’s an order for me not to play it, which exists up to today,” Itumbi said.
According to Itumbi, the case is still under legal restriction, preventing him from releasing the video evidence.
He, however, maintained that everything he claimed was based on verifiable facts.

He went on to name a former Principal Secretary as a central figure in the case, claiming that the PS had filed a complaint against him in court but later failed to testify.
“We went through the court process. The former PS was a complainant when we went to court. We told him to come and testify on what he was complaining about, to say basically that there was no such meeting, so that then I would call the people who attended to say we were actually in that meeting and this was planned,” Itumbi explained.

Hotel meeting
Itumbi stated that the meeting at a Nairobi hotel, near the National Intelligence Service (NIS) headquarters, brought together several Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries from the former administration.
“So [the PS] called a meeting at [a hotel]. Yes, [the] hotel next to the NIS headquarters, and he called all the CSs and PSs who were then working for the government. They met in the basement of La Mada. I even have the order of how they got in because I saw it,” Itumbi claimed.

He further stated that two former CSs were among those who attended the meeting but later excused themselves.
“One of the people who attended was the former CS, who excused himself because he had a flight to Rwanda. That’s another place to check, did he actually fly to Rwanda? [Another former CS] also attended and later excused herself,” Itumbi said.
In what he described as the most shocking revelation from the meeting, Itumbi stated that the PS behind the assassination plot made a chilling statement referencing the late Professor George Saitoti, the former Internal Security Minister who died in a 2012 helicopter crash.
“The former PS stood in that meeting and said, ‘Do not worry yourself about this campaign about the Deputy President becoming President. We are going to do everything possible, including what we did to Saitoti.’ He said it. I said it in court,” Itumbi claimed.
He added that when asked to take the witness stand, the PS declined and used his position to remove his name from the case documents.
“He ran away. In fact, he used his power to remove his name, only that I had the originals. You know there’s something you sign at DCI which shows you the complainant. I had the original because they had a copy. So we tabled it in court,” Itumbi added
