Hundreds of Muslims and pro-Palestinian supporters gathered at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Sunday, September 21, 2025, to protest Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and raise funds for humanitarian aid.

This comes as the European Union member states, led by the United Kingdom (UK), continue to push for the recognition of a Palestinian state.

Already UK, Canada and Australia have formally announced recognition of the state, a move that Israel vehemently opposes in the two-state solution.

The two-state solution is an internationally backed formula for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

The protests followed days after Israeli forces intensified their assault on Gaza, striking areas near al-Shifa, al-Ahli, and al-Rantisi hospitals.

It proposes an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It would exist alongside Israel.

Israel rejects a two-state solution. It says any final settlement must be the result of negotiations with the Palestinians, and statehood should not be a precondition.

The event brought together Islamic scholars, political leaders, imams from across the country, civil society leaders, and members of the public, all expressing solidarity with Palestinians facing conflict, blockade, and displacement.

The situation in Gaza remains critical, with millions of Palestinians experiencing widespread hunger and severe shortages of medical supplies.

A raging conflict, an enduring blockade, and relentless violence have devastated essential infrastructure, leaving families dependent on limited humanitarian aid.

Many households are barely surviving, with reports of rising malnutrition, especially among children. Clean water, nutritious food, and basic sanitation remain scarce.

Aid agencies warn of an escalating health crisis, with under-resourced hospitals overwhelmed by casualties and lacking essential medicines, surgical tools, and even consistent electricity.

Organisers of the Uhuru Park fundraiser urged the international community to act swiftly, calling for unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza and increased funding for relief efforts.

Contributions from the Nairobi fundraiser will go towards purchasing food parcels, medical kits, and other emergency supplies, which will be distributed through international humanitarian partners operating in the region.

Islamic committees, schools, and mosques from different parts of Kenya joined the fundraising drive, showing nationwide participation.

The protestors are stressing that the Palestinian cause transcends religion, ethnicity, and nationality. They framed it as an issue of human rights and dignity, urging people of all backgrounds to stand against injustice and suffering.
