Oscar Sudi recalls how lost phone sparked 16-year friendship with Senator Chesang

Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has offered a heartfelt glimpse into his longstanding friendship with Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang.

Speaking on Saturday, July 12, 2025, during a traditional wedding ceremony of Senator Chesang and his wife, Chennelle Kittony, Sudi revealed that their bond began in an unlikely place—a disco club nearly two decades ago.

Sudi recounted a personal story dating back 16 years that laid the foundation for their friendship. At the time, Chesang was a university student.

Huyu Allan nimefunza yeye siasa, amekuwa rafiki yangu. Kuna siku tulikuwa tumeenda disco, zamani, about 16 years ago. Of course alikuwa university. So simu yangu ikapotea kule kwa disco,” Sudi narrated.

Loosely translated as: “There was a day we had gone to a disco, a long time ago—about 16 years back. Of course, Allan was at university then. My phone got lost in the club.”

What followed, he narrated, was an unexpected twist of fate. Unknown to him, the thieves who stole his phone later sold it, and the buyer turned out to be none other than Chesang.

Instead of keeping the phone, Chesang chose integrity. He sought out Sudi and returned it, despite having paid for it.

So tukakaa two days, kumbe wale wakora waliiba simu yangu walienda wakauzia Allan. Sasa Allan kuangalia simu akapata ni yangu, na nilikuwa machachari sana, akanitafuta na akanirudishia simu yangu. Akaniambia, Although nilipeana pesa, na nimeona ni yako, nimekurudishia,” he narrated.

Loosely translated as: “Two days later, it turns out the thieves had sold the phone to Allan. When he checked the device, he realised it was mine. And I was quite tough back then. He told me, ‘Even though I paid for it, I saw it’s yours, and I’ve brought it back.’ That’s where our friendship began.”

Sudi said that from that moment, the two remained close and supported each other’s growth. He also revealed he was aware when Chesang began courting Channelle Kittony, noting that Chesang had once mentioned her father—Kiprono Kittony—was a strict man.
