One Kenya Alliance (OKA) has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to lift countrywide restrictions by the end of July.
While addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the alliance also called on the government to ensure that 50 per cent of Kenya’s population is fully vaccinated by the end of 2021.
“We also call on the government to reintroduce the earlier economic safeguards that include a review of tax regime to stimulate the economy,” Mutula Kilonzo Jr, who read the statement on behalf of the alliance, said.
Mutula said OKA’s priority is economic revival.
“To this end, we know that corruption is stifling economic revival. We, therefore, called upon the government to intensify its fight against corruption,” he said.
President Uhuru on June 30 announced extension of night curfew by 60 days while pledging to ramp up vaccination against COVID-19 amid surges in western parts of the country.
He said extension of COVID-19 restrictions including night curfews, a ban on public gatherings and limited attendance to houses of worship, would boost efforts to contain the pandemic.
Kenyatta said night curfew in 13 western Kenyan counties deemed the newest coronavirus hotspots would be maintained from 7 p.m to 4 a.m. until July 31.
