Pupils at Rayudhi Primary School in Migori County were on Thursday morning sent home after human faeces were found smeared on classroom walls, a habit which has allegedly persisted at the learning institution for three years now.

The learners were asked to return to school later in the day accompanied by their parents.

Rayudhi head teacher, Michael Ogutu, said for the last three years, they have been waking up to classroom walls stained by human waste. The perpetrator(s) of the shocking acts remain unknown, said Ogutu.

The head teacher says he suspects those behind the deeds could be motivated by superstitious beliefs.

“For a while — until today–, the perpetrators only smeared faeces on the classroom walls accommodating Class One to Three learners. We, however, discovered earlier today [Thursday, July 11] that they had done the same in rooms where Class Eight pupils are taught,” said the head teacher.

The school administration, consequently, told the learners to go home and bring their parents so that they could, collectively, find a solution to the persistent problem.

Teachers, parents and pupils resorted to prayers, hoping it would give a lasting solution to the problem.

They say they would monitor whether the prayers would yield the desired results on Friday, July 12.

Affected Class Eight learners were relocated to another room within the school compound.
