Nyandarua Senator distances DCP from Sifuna, Wamuchomba’s Kenya Moja camp
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has said the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) is not aligned to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and others in the Kenya Moja camp.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Methu maintained that anyone who is an enemy of President William Ruto is currently treated as a friend, but with caution.
According to the youthful senator, the DCP’s primary concern is to safeguard the political unity of the Mt Kenya region.
He warned that unnecessary alliances or unchecked partnerships could trigger divisions within the region, which he claimed would only play into the President’s hands.
“We in DCP, we are not allied to the likes of Sifuna, Wamuchomba, but anyone fighting William Ruto is not our enemy as long as they will not be used to divide the Mt Kenya region.
“Our people should understand that the more parties in the Mt Kenya region, is division it will cause, and that is Ruto’s happiness,” Methu said.
Guarding Mt Kenya’s unity
Methu explained that the DCP is willing to listen to and engage with politicians outside Mt Kenya who oppose Ruto’s leadership.

However, he clarified that such engagement should not compromise the region’s bargaining power, which he said has historically been weakened by internal wrangles and fragmented political outfits.
He stressed that the party’s loyalty lies with protecting the voice of Mt Kenya voters, rather than chasing quick political friendships that may not endure past the 2027 election cycle.
Careful alliances ahead of 2027
The senator further noted that the political environment remains fluid and that the DCP leadership is keen on ensuring that the region does not walk blindly into alliances that will weaken its future positioning.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and reject divisive rhetoric, insisting that Mt Kenya should speak with one voice if it is to remain a significant player in national politics.
Methu’s remarks come amid heightened speculation over possible realignments as the 2027 elections draw closer, with Gachagua’s DCP seen as a central force in the Mt Kenya political landscape.
