Nobody should block Kenyans who want to visit State House – Ruto

By , September 19, 2025

President William Ruto, on Friday, September 19, 2025, took a swipe at critics, insisting that nobody should be castigated for visiting State House, which he termed the home of every Kenyan.

Speaking during the launch of the SHA sponsorship program at State House, Nairobi, an event that saw thousands of Kenyans donning SHA-branded T-shirts, Ruto blasted claims that the presidential residence has lost its dignity.

The Head of State made it clear that State House belongs to the people and that his administration is committed to making it accessible to ordinary citizens.

Ruto’s message to critics

In his address, Ruto went further to issue a strong message.

“Mko na ruhusa ya kukuja hapa kwa sababu makao haya, ni makao ya wananchi wa taifa la Kenya.

“Kwa mapenzi ya Mungu na kwa kura zenu, mimi ndio mwenye amri ya nani atakuja hapa na ni nani hatakuja hapa. Nimeamua makao haya ya State House yatakua makao ya Wakenya wote,” Ruto said.

The President emphasised that those raising concerns about ordinary Kenyans visiting the residence were misguided.

“Wale wanalalamika ya kwamba makao haya yamekua ya watu leja leja, mimi nataka niwajuze waelewe ya kwamba hawaelewi maana ya Biblia Zaburi 113. Nimeinua heshima ya Wakenya,” Ruto added.

Ruto argued that the presence of thousands of citizens at the State House event was a demonstration of inclusivity and proof that leadership belongs to the people.

He explained that quoting Psalms 113 was deliberate to remind critics that leadership is a divine calling and that uplifting the dignity of Kenyans was part of his mission.

The President also tied the occasion to the government’s launch of the SHA Sponsorship Program, a healthcare initiative that will cover critical treatments like kidney transplants, cancer care, and accident-related surgeries.

Analysts say his remarks are designed to counter opposition narratives while reinforcing his promise to keep government close to the people.

By declaring that the State House is open to all, Ruto appears to be setting a new tone of accessibility and inclusivity in governance.

For the thousands in attendance, the message was clear: State House is no longer just the seat of power but the people’s house.
