Ngunjiri Wambugu blasts Gachagua over flip-flopping on Uhuru’s legacy
By Mustafa Juma, October 8, 2025Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has taken a swipe at impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of hypocrisy and inconsistency over his remarks about former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development record in the Mt Kenya region.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Wambugu criticised Gachagua for what he termed as political double-speak.
He went ahead to recall that the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader once accused Uhuru of neglecting Mt Kenya during his presidency, yet now claims credit for the very projects he previously dismissed.
“Gachagua fought Uhuru & said he did nothing for Mt Kenya; that he took development elsewhere. Today, when roads are shown being done in Mt Kenya, he says that it’s Uhuru’s work. Virus gani hii?” Ngunjiri wrote.

The former legislator, a vocal defender of Uhuru during the 2022 political season, said Gachagua’s changing narrative exposes the dishonesty within leaders who thrive on shifting blame and manipulating public perception.
Breaking Jubilee Party
Ngunjiri’s remarks come days after he accused Gachagua of being behind major efforts to break the Jubilee Party after the 2022 general elections.
According to him, the former deputy president has had issues with the former ruling party before, citing competition in the Mount Kenya region kingship.

Ngunjiri, who made his remarks on Monday, October 6, 2025, accused Gachagua of trying to sabotage Jubilee because of its strong dominance in the Mount Kenya region, where, according to him, the former DP feared losing relevance in the region.
“The person who wanted Jubilee vanquished is the person who did not want Jubilee to go back to being a dominant party in the Mount Kenya region,” Ngunjiri said.
Likewise, the former MP, who also worked in the office of Gachagua when he served as DP, revealed that Gachagua has been having a series of issues with the former ruling party for a while now.
“Today, you’re able to see who that was, Rigathi Gachagua. I mean, he’s the one who’s having a problem with Jubilee now because Jubilee is getting into a domain that he believes is his exclusively,” he added.
