Ngunjiri slams Kindiki for dishing out money aimlessly

By , July 31, 2025

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has faulted Deputy President Kithure Kindiki-led empowerment drives, saying it is dangerous to dish out money without following financial regulations.

Speaking to Kameme TV on Thursday, July 31, 2025, Ngunjiri said that while the idea of supporting the youth and women through economic empowerment is noble, it must be guided by structure and discipline.

“Let’s say this, when politics start, and in Kenya, politics has already started that trend of dishing out money, can’t lack. And we must accept the way Kenya is. When you are a politician and travel somewhere, people think you are carrying money, and that disease has already entered people’s minds,” Ngunjiri said.

He cautioned against throwing cash around in public events without verifying the legitimacy of the groups receiving it.

The former lawmaker said that during his time in Parliament, he only gave financial support to registered groups that were already running profitable, verifiable businesses.

Track record matters

“This thing of dishing out money is a good idea that can work well when groups are registered. When I was an elected MP, I made sure that I gave money to groups already conducting business. If you fail to do that, people will just end up drinking beer,” Kimani Ngunjiri said.

He emphasised the need for financial discipline and accountability, saying even today, a person cannot walk into a bank with a title deed and expect a loan without proof of business success.

“In my case, I ensured each group had done profitable business for no less than six months, with bank statements as proof,” Ngunjiri added.

He concluded by urging the government to prioritise critical services like healthcare and education over flashy public disbursements that serve more political optics than long-term development.
