Ngunjiri revisits Gachagua’s 2021 post praising Kawanjiku after fallout
By David Nthua, November 5, 2025It was on Friday, July 16, 2021, when the Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, publicly celebrated the victory of the newly elected Kiambaa MP John Njuguna, popularly known as Kawanjiku.
In his statement, Gachagua praised Kawanjiku for defeating what he described as “the deep state.”

Four years later, however, the two leaders are no longer on speaking terms.

That fallout has now drawn the attention of former Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri, who on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, revisited Gachagua’s old Facebook post celebrating Kawanjiku’s win.
In his remarks, Wambugu questioned how the current Democracy for Citizens Party leader manages to lose allies so quickly despite having once shown admiration and respect for them.
“Incidentally, Jofri has fallen out with all the leaders he speaks of having ‘nothing but respect’ for, in the last para, except Mhesh Jane. How does he lose friendships and allies so fast?” Wambugu wrote on Facebook.
He said it was painful to watch how political friendships in Mount Kenya keep breaking apart, especially among leaders who once stood together in unity.

Wambugu’s message about Gachagua
Wambugu reminded his followers that political loyalty in Kenya often changes with time and interest. He noted that such divisions weaken the region’s voice and make it harder for Mount Kenya leaders to speak with one accord.
He added that Gachagua’s recent fallout with many of his former allies, including leaders who once supported him publicly, shows how fast political tides can shift.

Wambugu called on Mount Kenya leaders to focus more on serving the people rather than engaging in endless political quarrels.
He urged them to put aside personal differences and work together to defend the region’s interests as the 2027 elections draw closer.
As of now, neither Gachagua nor Kawanjiku has publicly commented on their strained relationship.

Speaking during the Ngemi Cia Watho Association Festival in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, on Saturday night, November 1, 2025, Gachagua stated that the lawyers played a critical role in insulating the late former prime minister.
Gachagua urged intellectuals and professionals to take an active role in politics rather than shying away from it, arguing that their participation was vital in shaping a more accountable and visionary leadership.
