Francis Mwangi, was being escorted to PGH hospital in Nakuru on the wee hours of Friday morning when he broke handcuffs and managed to flee leaving the six officers and a trained police dog from K9 looking for him.

The six officers who were escorting him to hospital include; Lydiah Maki, Philip Ojwang, Samwel Maina, Samwel Kagia, Silvanus Odero and Daniel Macharia.

“Mwangi was being escorted after he was subjected to mob injustice and was seriously injured on the head, chest and swollen hands,” a police report seen by K24 Digital reads in part.

Maki and Kagia were at the back of the police land cruiser guarding the suspect who was handcuffed while the other three officers were following them with a civilian chase car.

The suspect on the process became violent and wrestled the two officers who were keeping an eye on him.

The driver had the commotion stopped to find out what was taking place.

It later emerged that the suspect had already broken the handcuffs and disappeared into a nearby bush.

“The officers called for reinforcement and tracking dog from K9 but no re-arrest was made. Efforts are in progress to trace and apprehend him,” the statement further read.
