Kihiki expressed confidence that Kinyanjui would leverage his networks and expertise to promote growth and investment in the nation.
She wished him success in his new role, highlighting it as a transformative opportunity to serve the country.

“This is indeed a proud moment for Nakuru County. On behalf of the people of Nakuru, I thank H. E President William Ruto for this appointment which is a testament to his vision for a united and inclusive government,” she said.
Kihiki, who vied on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, was elected the governor of Nakuru county in the August 2022 general election after handing Lee Kinyanjui a humiliating defeat in 10 constituencies out of 11.
She was declared the winner of the Nakuru gubernatorial race after garnering 440,707 votes against Kinyanjui of the Jubilee party who got 225,623 votes.
Kinyanjui’s appointment to the Cabinet may limit his ability to launch early campaigns to reclaim the Nakuru governorship, should he still have political aspirations.
Cabinet reshuffle
In a fresh round of Cabinet appointments on December 19, 2024, President William Ruto nominated Lee Kinyanjui, Mutahi Kagwe and William Kabogo for key Cabinet Secretary positions as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership in vital sectors of government.
The nominations come as part of a wider reshuffle aimed at optimizing service delivery and driving the administration’s ambitious Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Lee Kinyanjui will now head the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, a strategic portfolio focused on boosting Kenya’s investment climate and trade relations.
Mutahi Kagwe has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Kagwe brings a wealth of experience to this critical sector, which plays a central role in Kenya’s economy.
William Kabogo has been appointed Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy, taking charge of Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
In addition to the new appointments, the reshuffle also included the re-assignments within the Cabinet with Kipchumba Murkomen promoted to the powerful Interior docket.
