The Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has called on Members of Parliament to embrace transparency in the wake of President William Ruto’s recent corruption claims.

Speaking during a joint media briefing on Thursday night, August 21, 2025, Murkomen said leaders should not dismiss the President’s remarks but instead reflect on them and take them as an opportunity to strengthen accountability in public offices.

“If I was in the shoes of our colleagues,I would have take positivly and say they might be some information the president has that information may not be actionable in tyhe court of law but uit might be sufficient for us to look at ourself nad say what other measures can we put to ensure there is proper transparency in the things we do,” he said.

The CS emphasised that leadership requires openness, honesty, and responsibility, adding that leaders should set the tone for accountability across government institutions.

Wetang’ula on corruption

This comes after Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, called on the Members of the National Assembly leadership to take a moment and reflect on the recent corruption allegations pointing at the National Assembly.

Wetangula, while asking the members to have a moment of reflection, urged the legislators to speak up freely on the reasons leading to recent extortion allegations made by the Head of State, William Ruto.

The Speaker called on the members on Thursday, August 21, 2025, during the 3rd National Assembly Leadership retreat held in Serena Hotel in Mombasa County.

“We must also have candid conversations on the challenges that lie ahead and see how best we can navigate to ensure service delivery to the people,” Wetangula said.

“Some of us will be able to assist us, some are protagonists in this game (corruption), some are victims in this game, and some of us are a bit of both,”

Ruto’s warning to MPs

Speaking during a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting with their Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at Karen earlier in the week, Ruto said that some legislators had been persistently engaging in corrupt deals to sabotage government business.

According to Ruto, he receives raw intelligence regularly and is reliably informed that some lawmakers have been consistently taking bribes.

“They are collecting money in the name of Parliament, and sometimes that money never gets to Parliament. Instead, it ends up in the pockets of a few individuals.

“We are not going to shame them; we are going to apprehend them,” Ruto said.
