Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen says Deputy President William Ruto has been looking “concerned” since the day claims of his alleged assassination plot surfaced.

Murkomen says even though the DP is shying away from talking to him about the matter, he could clearly see his body language had changed.

Speaking to Citizen Television Wednesday night, Murkomen claimed so “concerned” is Ruto that even his already-imperial security was enhanced further.

Murkomen said on Wednesday morning he tried getting information from the DP about the alleged assassination plot, but Ruto declined to comment.

“… When I inquired from him about the assassination story; and that he is being looked for by the DCI, he said: ‘No, no, those are issues [I wouldn’t speak about as of now],” Murkomen told TV host Jeff Koinange.

“But, keenly observing his body language, he is a person who is concerned,” said Murkomen, adding: “Most times when cracks emerge in the ruling party, you would hear the DP say: ‘The president and I would sort that out’. But on this one, you could see some level of concern by the DP.”

“Number Two: I saw his convoy when he left his [Harambee Annex] office on Wednesday, June 26, and realised it looked like it was enhanced. I asked some security guy about the one or two extra vehicles added to Ruto’s convoy, and the officer told me: ‘There is work that has been done’.

“I told myself: ‘Then these things are serious’.”

The Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator faulted Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, for allegedly planning the now-famous La Mada Hotel meeting, which recently brought together four ministers from the Mt. Kenya region.

According to a section of politicians allied to DP Ruto, it was during that meeting that the DP’s alleged assassination plot was mooted.

Kibicho has, however, denied arranging the meeting to plan Ruto’s killing.

The powerful CS, instead, says the politicians in the DP’s wing are now “harassing” him since the allegations emerged.

People Daily reported Thursday that Kibicho has since filed a report with the DCI over the alleged harassment by Ruto’s team.

Murkomen terms Kibicho’s move to “report the DP and his team” as “unprecedented”.

“That is unprecedented! Can you imagine in the US, a secretary somewhere, who reports to Donald Trump, taking one of US ministers to the FBI or the Attorney General for prosecution?” posed Murkomen.

The Senate Majority leader says despite the in-house wrangling within Jubilee, the party “remains united under the leadership of Uhuru Kenyatta”.
