Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, says Deputy President William Ruto should be arrested and prosecuted if he and his allies raised a false alarm that the DP’s life was in danger.
Speaking at the St. Thomas ACK Cathedral in Kerugoya Town, Kirinyaga County on Saturday, Mudavadi said it was “reckless” and “dangerous” of Ruto-allied politicians to make such allegations, “knowing too well that such claims can spark inter-ethnic violence and animosity”.
Mudavadi said he suspects the Ruto-assassination claim was “sensational” aimed at attracting political sympathy.
The former deputy prime minister said police should get to the bottom of the allegations and tell Kenyans whether it is indeed true that someone wants Ruto dead, or it was just a mere political scheme by politicians allied to the DP.
“The Ruto killing allegations shouldn’t be taken casually, they are very serious,” said Mudavadi, who was accompanied to the church by NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua.
“If police establish that there is no evidence to support Ruto killing claims, then the DP and other people spreading the fake allegations should be arrested and prosecuted for raising false alarm,” said Mudavadi.
Karua echoed the ANC leader’s remarks, calling on politicians to think about the possible repercussions of their statements before uttering them in public.
The two leaders, alongside Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, attended the ACK event where new Kenya Anglican Men Association members were registered.
Ruto’s team put Kibicho at the centre of the said-murder plot ever since the PS met four Cabinet ministers from the Mt. Kenya region at La Mada Hotel in Nairobi.
The conclave, which brought together CSs Peter Munya (Trade), Joe Mucheru (ICT), Sicily Kariuki (Health) and James Macharia (Transport), took place last week, with the ministers saying they convened to discuss Mt. Kenya region development agenda.
PS Kibicho has, however, denied being an architect of the Ruto assassination plot, instead telling the DCI that the DP team has been targeting him unfairly.
