Morara Kebaso: I have been trolled and traumatised yet people contributed willingly

Inject party leader Morara Kebaso has broken his silence following public criticism over funds raised for his civic education campaigns.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Kebaso defended his character and clarified his intentions, saying the contributions were never meant for personal gain.
“I need my life, my reputation & my future. I sacrificed everything that I could give. My sweat, time, energy, brains, and resources, because I believed,” Kebaso said in the lengthy statement.
He lamented that despite his efforts, some people continue to brand him a conman, causing him emotional distress.
“You have trolled and traumatised me every day because of your contributions. You call me a conman in front of my family, my friends, and my clients, people who have known me and trusted me since childhood,” he said.
Kebaso insisted that the funds were used exactly as promised, mainly to support his civic education efforts and purchase a public address system meant to expose stalled government projects. He said the initiative had raised over Ksh500,000.
“Yet you contributed willingly, and whatever you were contributing for, I did it every day, every hour, without getting tired. But you are on my neck every day. I cannot rest; I cannot eat,” he added.
Adding;
“You shred a reputation that has been built with pain and resilience because you believe everyone does stuff for money. I’m here to let everyone know that I don’t do what I do for money.”
The politician made it clear he remains determined, despite the backlash.
“For those who see this as a failure, they should know I am here to stay. After I’m done with this, I will take a break to re-energise. The next time you see me, I will either be in the State House or on the Forbes list. I am not going to fail if you think I will,” he declared.
Refunds
Kebaso’s statement comes just a day after he began the process of refunding contributions made towards his civic education efforts. On Friday, July 25, he issued a post inviting anyone who wanted a refund to submit proof of payment.
“If you need a refund for any contribution you made to me when I was raising funds, kindly reply below with the Mpesa message or check your Mpesa statement and recover the Mpesa ref. code,” he wrote.
Adding;
“I would like to refund any Kenyan who may have thought that the contributions were a motivation for me to seek leadership.”
Kebaso stressed that the refund exercise is meant to bring closure and clear his name.
“If you have been calling Morara Kebaso a conman or a thief for receiving public contributions towards civic education efforts, this is your moment to receive a refund of your contribution. Comment with your M-Pesa message or M-Pesa ref code. We want to settle the matter once and for good,” he added.
He assured that verification of submitted requests is ongoing, and those who had already shared their details would be contacted once the process is complete.
