Maraga defends volunteer movement, says campaign is people-driven
By William Muthama, July 23, 2025Former Chief Justice David Maraga has affirmed that the growing support he is receiving from ordinary Kenyans reflects a shift in the country’s political culture.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Maraga said that Kenyans who are supporting his campaign are not just backing a candidate but building the change they want to see.
“You have already started to walk this journey with us in humble steps,” Maraga said. “Your continued contributions and volunteer sign-up on the website are a true statement to the evolution of Kenyan politics that Kenyans have for a long time demanded. You are building this change yourselves. This is your journey.”
He praised the efforts of volunteers who have joined his campaign, saying their input will be central to shaping the campaign’s future.
“We shall soon be in touch with a comprehensive structure that allows for all your talents and abilities to contribute to building the future of your most courageous dreams,” he said.
Pledges transparency
Maraga reiterated his commitment to running an accountable and transparent campaign, underpinned by the values of integrity and constitutionalism.
“My commitment to you, as best as humanly possible, guided by integrity and constitutional fidelity, is that of complete transparency, accountability, and the responsible handling of your resources, data, time, and effort,” he said.

He dismissed critics who have downplayed the role of volunteers in his campaign, defending the movement as people-driven and powered by the public’s desire for a new type of politics.
Manifesto
Maraga added that his team is currently enhancing the campaign’s digital infrastructure, including security upgrades to the team’s official website.
He called for patience as these technical improvements are made, saying, “Our technical team continues to strengthen our digital platform’s capacity and security. This will include the public ticker on all digital fundraising platforms.”
He also revealed plans to introduce a system that will collect and integrate public feedback into his manifesto. “This is truly your journey, and the digital platforms we are rolling out will be bold infrastructure inspired by this young and courageous generation,” he said.
Maraga closed by affirming that his campaign is proof that the Kenyan spirit is alive and committed to change.
