Police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of Ksh15 million from the house of a Lang’ata top executive.

Cyrus Kinyanjui, 32, and Alexander Kuria, 30, were arrested by special service unit (SSU) officers in Mombasa on Sunday, February 14.

“The SSU detectives recovered Ksh2 million and a motor vehicle, a Toyota Vanguard, of registration plate KDB 181P from Cyrus Kinyanjui,” said police.

Authorities say the vehicle was caught on CCTV cameras at the executive’s Lang’ata home on Thursday, February 11, the night the victim’s Ksh15 million was stolen.

“No cash was recovered from Alexander Kuria, though he was found to have deposited Ksh1 million in his Equity Bank account,” said police.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Last Friday, police arrested a Kenyan man and woman accused of stealing Ksh15 million belonging to their employer, a male Chinese national.

The two were accused of organising the theft on Thursday, February 11, when their employer, Wang Daoli — a resident of Lang’ata — was away celebrating China’s New Year.

Daoli, who stepped out at 6:30pm, left his house under the watch of his maid and driver. In his bedroom, was a safe containing Ksh15 million.

Daoli returned home at 10:30pm and found the safe containing his money missing.

“Police officers visited the scene and established that the bedroom door had not been broken down, hence the possibility of an inside job,” said a police report filed at the Lang’ata Police Station on Friday, February 12 under the OB Number 15/12/2/2021.

Authorities said Daoli’s compound was well-guarded, and had there been a burglary incident, a report on the attack would have been filed by either the driver or the maid.

The two employees and two other people were arrested in connection with the theft.

It remains to be established whether the domestic workers liaised with the suspects arrested in Mombasa to execute the theft.
