Sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday re-arrested Michael Mutunga who is accused of ending the life of a Catholic Priest in Embu County.
Mutunga is accused of ending the life of Father Michael Maingi Kyengo on October 8, 2019 and his remains were later found buried in a shallow grave on a dry riverbed known as Gathingiri in Embu.
His arrest comes just days after he was released on bond by a court just days after he was arrested by police.
“Detectives had painstakingly investigated the murder and arrested the main suspect with crucial exhibits linking him to the crime. The exhibits included a sharp knife suspected to be the murder weapon and some of his blood-stained clothes which he had tried to wash in vain,” a statement by the DCI read in part.
Detectives said that in unbelievable turn of events, the suspect was released on a Sh300,000 cash bail upon arraignment at the Embu High Court.
The suspect immediately went into hiding and failed to appear in court, forcing the court to issue a warrant for his arrest.
He went into hiding but detectives who have been trailing him managed to smoke him out of his hideout in Nairobi.
