Malala dismisses Ruto-Gachagua secret talk claims by Jubilee’s Kioni

Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) interim deputy party leader, Cleophas Malalah, has brushed off claims by Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly working with President William Ruto.

He has said that Kioni’s remarks were attempts by some state-sponsored tactics to polarise the United Opposition due to its ongoing criticisms of the government.

Speaking in Malava on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, while rallying support for the party’s candidate, Edgar Busieka, in the upcoming by-elections, Malalah maintained that Gachagua cannot work or reunite with Ruto.

“I have seen there are people like Kioni who have embarked on diversionary tactics. These are people who are sent with specific instructions to divide the United Opposition. I want to ask him that if you are in the opposition and you cannot say a ‘Wantam’ slogan, then you are a mole,” Malalah scoffed.

This comes amid growing speculation over the future of the United Opposition, with the public bare knuckles indicating that an internal rift is in the offing even as the leaders insist that they are united.

In a show of might, Malalah claimed that Kioni has never openly criticised the government in the past, calling him a mole within the opposition.

“Kioni should stop sowing confusion, claiming that Riggy G is a Ruto project. Can Gachagua really be with Ruto? He should be warned that under no circumstances can we work with Ruto,” he said.

Kioni on Gachagua

In an interview on a local radio station on Sunday, September 28, 2025, he said Gachagua met leaders in Narok County at an undisclosed date, where he tried to explain why the DCP was denying Narok Town Ward aspirant Joshua Ole Kaputa a party ticket for the upcoming by-elections.

“Gachagua told them that William Ruto has already sent emissaries to them and they had an arrangement to put their houses in order and then meet to have a discussion,” Kioni stated.

“And he was saying, ‘By that time I will have the 7 million votes from the mountain region, 1 million from Kalonzo, and 800,000 from Matiang’i. I will now have more than half of the cake, and I will share some of it with the Maasai community. So Joshua, you should wait; we will nominate you,” Kioni narrated.

He maintained that the Jubilee party is willing to work with like-minded parties and will not onboard anyone involved in sinister political deals.

“We would like to work with like-minded parties that actually believe in sending William Ruto home, not in ‘get your people and I get mine’,” he noted.
