A man collapsed and died at Mukuyuni market, Kaiti sub-county on Sunday evening.

According to police reports, Boniface Wambua, 42, collapsed at the market at around 6.20 pm and was pronounced dead at the Mukuyuni Sub-County hospital where he had been taken for treatment.

County Police Commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan said the cause of the death has not been established but the body has been moved to the County Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

Ole Naipeyan said police have started investigations into the incident.

Elsewhere, police last night arrested two lorry drivers along the Kitui-Kibwezi Road for flouting the nationwide 7 pm-5 am curfew.

The police commanders said the drivers identified as Duncan Koome and Phineas Muriithi were intercepted around 9.30 pm while ferrying miraa and muguka.

“They were travelling from Meru and the consignment was headed to Kilifi, through Mombasa,” said Ole Naipeyan.

The two were detained at the Kibwezi police station and will be arraigned in court later today.
