Kenyan officer missing for nearly half a year confirmed dead in Haiti
By Nancy Marende, September 25, 2025The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer who had been reported missing while serving under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti.
According to the NPS, the officer went missing on March 25, 2025, after an ambush on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of Haiti’s Artibonite Department.
In a statement on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the NPS revealed that he officer’s family was promptly notified of the incident and has since been receiving regular updates.

“Since then, the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), has been conducting a meticulous search and rescue operation to locate the missing officer,” read the statement in part.
Furthermore, the NPS announced that they had received information confirming the death of the officer.
“The NPS extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow,” read the statement in part.

NPS further noted that the Multinational Security Support Mission, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police, continues to pursue investigations and maintain security operations in the troubled Caribbean nation.

Corporal Kennedy Mutuku
Meanwhile, NPS also disclosed that the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a road traffic accident on September 1, 2025, will arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025
The Service reiterated its commitment to the safety of Kenyans both at home and abroad, pledging to uphold its responsibilities under the Haiti mission in full compliance with international law.
“NPS remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property. Furthermore, we are dedicated to achieving the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti in full compliance with international law,” read the statement.
