Kenya ranked 4th in Africa for new strides in the tourism sector
By Alvin Mwangi, November 10, 2025Kenya has received new international recognition after being ranked fourth in Africa for its strides in digitising the tourism sector, marking another major achievement in the country’s journey toward technological advancement within the travel industry.
The announcement was made on Monday, November 10, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the ongoing United Nations Tourism General Assembly that is celebrating countries transforming their tourism sectors through technology.
The recognition comes as the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife continues to roll out reforms aimed at modernising Kenya’s tourism industry and boosting its visibility on the global stage.

One of the key initiatives credited for this success is the Kenya Tourism Board’s (KTB) ongoing digital campaign, which showcases the country’s attractions online.
The campaign allows potential visitors to explore Kenya’s wide range of destinations, from the Maasai Mara and the Kenyan coast to cultural heritage sites and modern urban experiences.
Proof of Kenya’s transformation
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano said the acknowledgement from Riyadh is proof that the world is paying attention to Kenya’s digital transformation.
“The world out there is watching Kenya and wants to know more about this country. We are working tirelessly to ensure that we move even higher in the rankings. We have a lot coming, especially projects involving our young people,” Miano said.

She also pointed out that the recognition aligns with President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda, which promotes inclusivity and job creation across key sectors.
“Kenya is a magical country, and the support we receive from President William Ruto is something we truly value,” she added.
Other countries featured in the rankings include South Africa, Mauritius, and Botswana, while the United States emerged as the global leader in tourism digitisation.

Kenya’s digital progress is seen as a vital step toward becoming a fully tech-driven tourism destination.
Through continuous investment in online platforms, digital infrastructure, and youth innovation, the ministry aims to attract more visitors, stimulate local economies, and position Kenya as a global hub for tourism innovation.
