Kenya Power announces scheduled blackout for Thursday

Kenya Power has notified its customers in six counties to brace for electricity shutdowns on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

In a statement, the electricity transmitting company noted that six counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Nyeri, Embu, Kiambu and Kilifi.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi, the utility firm indicated that power will be shut down from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

During that period, Kenya Power is expected to carry out routine maintenance on its grid connecting over 13 areas within the city.

Areas set to be affected by the planned shutdown include the United Nations (UN), Gigiri, UN Avenue, and UN Crescent.

Other areas set to go without power for eight hours include Whispers Avenue, Daisy Road, Magnolia Close, Part of Ruaka Road, Lobelia Drive, Runda Road, Runda Drive, Mae Properties and adjacent customers.

Kajiado County

In Kajiado County, customers will stay without power from 9 am to 5 pm.

The areas which will be affected include Loitokitok Town, Kimana Town, Amboseli, Imbirikani, Rombo, Njukini, Customs, Ilitilal, Murtot, Ichalai Risa, Sultan Hamud, Pipeline, Kibini Quarry, Mashuru, Ngatu, Emaroro and adjacent customers.

Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, areas which will be affected by the power shutdown include Birithia Girls, Mwanda TBC, Mahiga C/Fact, Kenyatta Mahiga High School, Kagere Market and Gachami Market.

Other areas are Mahiga Girls School, Mathakwaini Market and Secondary School, Thiriku C/Fact, Mathenge Technical Institute, Gitugi T/Fact, Gitugi Market, Munyange H/Centre, Njigari Primary, Rwatheini Village, Kihome Market, Miiri Market, Gaturuturu Market, Gathuthi T/Fact and Ndugamano Secondary School.

Power will be unvailable from 8 am – 5 pm.

Embu County

In Embu County, the utility company will switch off power from 8.30 am – 4.30 pm.

Majengo area will be majorly affected by the power outage.

Others include KRA Offices, Majengo Chief’s Camp, Racy Garage, County Secondary and Primary Schools, Shell Petrol Station and adjacent customers.

Kiambu County

Takataka Solutions, Kawamwaki Farm, Nazareth Hospital, Utee Farm, Brook Hill School, Eldo Farm, Utungi, Jomalis and adjacent customers will be affected by the power outage which will run from 9.00 amĀ  – 5.00 pm.

Kilifi County

In Kilifi County, Ganze area will be mainly affected by the planned shutdown. The specific areas listed by the utility firm include Ganze Centre, Palakumi, Ganze Quarry and adjacent customers.
