Kenya Power announces planned blackout in parts of 7 counties

Kenya Power has announced scheduled power interruptions in several parts of the country on Sunday, July 13, 2025, as part of its ongoing maintenance programme to improve electricity supply.

The planned outage will affect parts of Meru, Mombasa, Kakamega, Nyeri, Kisumu, Siaya, and Busia counties.

In Meru County, the outage will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas affected include Kaaga, Kithoka, and Nkoune. Specific locations include Silver Spread, Magunas, KPLC Offices, Meru Teachers College, Kaaga Girls High School, KEMU University, Safaricom Kaaga, Kaithe Market, Bishop Lawi Imathiu schools, Kithoka Ripples and nearby areas.

In Mombasa County, two areas will be affected. Power will be off in Shimanzi and Makande between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, affecting places like KPA High Level, VIVO Energy, TATA Chemicals, Makupa Catholic Church Parish, Finlays, and KPA Red Brick. In Miritini, also from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., customers at Weldcon, Hakika Transporters, Simba EPZ, Petrocity, and other nearby users will experience outages.

Kakamega County will see a shorter outage in Mumias, scheduled from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Affected areas include Mumias Town, Mumias Sugar Factory, Buka Academy, Butere, Bukura, Khwisero, and adjacent locations.

Other regions

In Nyeri County, residents in Karatina Town and Karindundu will be without power between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Locations such as Karatina Girls Secondary School, Karatina Sub County Hospital, Jamii Hospital, Ibis Hotel, Mathira Daily, and Kirigu Catholic Church will be affected.

In Kisumu County, there will be outages in Sondu Market from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and in Ombeyi from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Affected places include Sondu Town, Nyakachi Girls School, Ombeyi Market, and Mayfair Bakery.

Siaya County will experience a brief outage from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, affecting Siaya Town, Yala, Maseno, Ugunja, Rarieda, and surrounding areas.

Finally, Busia County will also have a power cut between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Areas impacted include Busia Town, Malaba, Nambale, Sioport, and nearby regions.

Kenya Power has advised affected customers to plan accordingly and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
