Kenya Power announces outages in parts of 10 counties on Sept 25
By Mustafa Juma, September 25, 2025Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions across 10 counties on Thursday, September 25, 2025, to allow for routine network maintenance.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the utility firm listed parts of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kakamega, Nyeri, Nyamira, Isiolo, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kwale, and Mombasa that will experience a power blackout for up to nine hours.
Nairobi
In Nairobi County, the outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting parts of Kamkunji, including Jua Kali, Shauri Moyo, Muthurwa Primary, Gikomba Market and surrounding areas, Starehe Boys Centre, and sections of General Waruinge Road.
“Jua Kali, Shauri Moyo, Muthurwa Pri, Parts of Gikomba, Gikomba Social Hall, DO’s Office Gikomba, Family Bank Gikomba, Co-op Bank Gikomba, BBS Mall, Shell Petrol Stn, Ismariot Hotel, Nomad Hotel, Eastleigh High Sch, Pumwani Boys, Starehe Boys Center Part of General Waruinge & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.
Nakuru
In Nakuru County, residents of Gilgil town and its environs—including Langalanga, Malewa, Kenyatta Barracks, Milimani, Mawingu, Soysambu, Serena Hotel, St Mary’s Hospital, and adjacent areas—will experience a blackout from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“Whole of Gilgil Town, Ndume Ltd, Culsons Ltd, Pembroke Sch, Langalanga, Malewa, NYS, Kenyatta Barracks, 2KA, Garison Sch, Koilel Sec Sch, Milimani, Ngomongo, Utumishi Sch, ASTU, Gitare, Mawingu, Gatarwa, Diatomite Ltd, Epashikino Hotel, Pelican, Karura, Heaven’s Gate, St. Marys Hosp, St. Joseph Hosp, Serena Hotel, Soysambu, Kasambara, Lemon Valley, Echireria & adjacent customers,” the notice read.
Kakamega
Parts of Kakamega County such as Kambi Mwanza, Ileho, Shamberere, West Kenya Sugar, and surrounding areas will be without power from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Nyamira
Nyamira County will see an outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Iteresi, Nyabikomu, Engentubi, Kwabincha, and nearby areas.
Murang’a
In Murang’a County, the blackout will hit Kirimiri and Ndithini Mission, including Mbogo Estate and Kaguku, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Nyeri
Nyeri County residents in Kamacharia and its surroundings, including Kamacharia Market, Kagumoini Factory, Mathioya Polytechnic, and several trading centres, will also experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Isiolo
Isiolo County will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting the airport, Mwangaza Water Supply, Kandebe Market, 78 Tank Battalion, and nearby areas.
Kirinyaga
In Kirinyaga County, the outage will affect Kagio Market, Kianjogu, Sagana Mission, Kandongu Market, and surrounding regions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kwale
Kwale County residents in Mwabungo, Mvindeni, Bongwe, Jorori, and surrounding areas will face a blackout from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Mombasa
Mombasa County will also be hit, with outages planned for Shanzu and Bamburi Cement staff quarters, including AIC Shanzu, Bush Bar, Junda Secondary, and nearby establishments, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
