The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has sounded an alarm over the rise of conmen who are claiming to be Directors of the Affordable Housing Project.
In a notice issued late on Friday, August 9, 2024, Kenya Forest Service detailed that the said conmen are approaching investors helping to cut deals in the Affordable Housing Project, especially in supplying building materials.
In an elaborate fraudulent scheme, the Kenya Forest Service indicated that the conmen are informing the investors that KFS has struck with the affordable housing project for the supply of timber.
However, in a statement, KFS has made it clear that it has not signed such a deal with the Affordable Housing Project.
“Kenya Forest Service wishes to warn members of the Public and in particular Forest Industry Investors to beware of unscrupulous conmen who are fraudulently claiming to be the Director(s) of the Affordable Housing Project and are asserting that they have an agreement with our Service to purchase forest materials for this project.
“Please note that these claims are false. The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has not entered into any agreements with the Affordable Housing Project to supply timber, either directly or through investors. KFS communicates with investors transparently and in accordance with established laws and processes,” the Kenya Forest Service insisted.
How to report them
To avoid falling victim to fraud schemes, Kenya Forest Service advised any willing investor to verify any communication regarding a transaction in the sector with them.
Further, Kenya Forest urged the public to report suspicious activities and communications.
“The Affordable Housing Project, which is spearheaded by the President, is recognized for its significant potential to create employment and positively impact the economy. However, any communication suggesting a financial transaction or agreement related to this project should be verified with us directly.
“We advise all Forest Industry Investors and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications to KFS or to the nearest police station. For further information please contact us through our official line at 0202020285, via email at [email protected] or [email protected].”
