KeNHA announces 3-month traffic disruption on section of Thika-Garissa Road
By William Muthama, July 21, 2025The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory notifying the public of an upcoming disruption on the Thika–Garissa (A3) Road due to maintenance works at Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge, located near Mbakini Centre.
In a statement posted on Monday, July 21, 2025, via the official KeNHA handle on X, the authority announced that the section of the road will experience restricted traffic flow from Saturday, July 26, 2025, to Saturday, November 8, 2025.
According to the statement, the disruption is necessary to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation works on the bridge’s girders and deck to enhance structural safety and ensure long-term functionality of the bridge.
“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika – Garissa (A3) Road at Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near Mbakini Centre will experience traffic disruption from Saturday, July 26, 2025, to Saturday, November 8, 2025,” the statement read in part.

Traffic management plan
Motorists are advised to adhere to the proposed traffic management plan that will be in place throughout the repair period.
KeNHA has also called on all road users to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to manage flow and ensure safety around the site.
“This is to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation on the bridge girders and deck. Motorists are advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority added.
The road is a vital transport corridor linking central Kenya with eastern parts of the country, and the bridge serves as a key crossing point.
The authority has pledged to minimise inconvenience by fast-tracking the works and maintaining safe passage for vehicles during the rehabilitation period.
KeNHA apologised for the inconvenience and urged the public to remain patient as the works are necessary for improved road safety and infrastructure resilience.
