Suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday morning abducted a Form Four student in Wajir County.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, four suspected militants who include a local walked into the homestead of Fatuma Aden in Shallete village, Wajir county and kidnapped the 25-year-old identified as Mohamed Aden Bare.

The four, according to the police, were driving a white Probox, registration number KCN 769A.

“As soon as they arrived in the homestead, they bundled him to the vehicle and sped off towards Elbai and investigations into the matter have been launched,” part of the statement read.

Mohamed is a student at Wajir Bor Secondary School and was scheduled to sit his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education national exams on March 19, 2021.

Wajir is one of Kenya’s counties suspected to have active Al-Shabaab cells that target locals for recruitment into the armed terrorist group.

In the recent past, North Eastern region has seen an increase in terror-related activities.

In December, a chief identified as Omar Adan Buul, was kidnapped when members of the militant group raided Gumarey sub-location in Wajir County.

He was later beheaded and his head thrown in a thicket.
