Kanchory: Most Harambee Stars players will snub Ruto in 2027

By , August 11, 2025

Former Azimio chief agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory has reignited political tensions with a bold prediction that President William Ruto will struggle to win the youth vote in the 2027 general election despite his financial support to Harambee Stars players.

In a statement on his X account on Monday, August 11, 2025, Kanchory claimed that the younger generation, including national athletes, remains disillusioned with Ruto’s leadership and broken promises.

“Most of the Harambee Stars players will still vote against Ruto in 2027,” he said. “Hawa ni wale wasee. They are not their parents,” the statement read.

Kanchory’s remarks come just hours after President Ruto pledged Ksh2.5 million for each Harambee Stars player if the team secures a win against Zambia in their final group stage match.

The move is seen by many as part of Ruto’s broader charm offensive targeting youth and sports communities.

Kanchory, however, suggested such gestures may not translate into political loyalty, noting a generational shift in voter behaviour.

“They can’t be swayed the same way. They’ve seen what’s happening. They know what’s real and what’s not,” he added.

Ruto CHAN goodies

The Head of State announced on Monday, August 11, 2025, that if the team beats Zambia in their next match on Sunday, each player will receive Ksh2.5 million.

This announcement comes after a series of generous rewards the team has already earned for their impressive performances. So far, the Harambee Stars have received Ksh1 million each for their win against DR Congo, Ksh500,000 each after a draw with Angola, and another Ksh1 million per player following their recent 1-0 victory over Morocco.

“We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player Ksh2.5 million,” President Ruto posted on his X account.

He also praised the team and stressed the importance of unity in Kenya’s success.

“Unity has always propelled us forward. We must never allow negativity, failure, or doubt to prevent us from reaching our full potential. If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.

He went on to highlight how the Harambee Stars exemplify the power of unity.

“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together and we are all witnessing the success it is bringing to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach.”
