Kaluma challenges Gachagua to name candidates for other mini-polls
By David Nthua, September 12, 2025Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, on Friday, September 12, 2025, challenged the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua to be bold enough and communicate his plan for the upcoming by-elections.
Through a post on X, the outspoken legislator minced no words, saying Gachagua is fearing defeat in the mini polls despite his constant loud rhetoric against fellow leaders.
“Where are Gachagua’s @DcpPartyKenya candidates in the upcoming by-elections! Don’t hide after making hateful noise against fellow Kenyans, come out, we sign your political obituary!” Kaluma fired.

The ODM lawmaker went further, declaring that Gachagua’s political career was already sealed following his impeachment from the Office of Deputy President earlier this year.
“You can postpone, but you will never escape your destiny. Having been impeached, you can never hold public office, FOREVER!” Kaluma posted.
DCP withdrawal sparks debate
Kaluma’s attack comes just days after Rigathi Gachagua announced that his Democracy for Citizens Party would not field a candidate in the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.
Instead, DCP endorsed the Democratic Party (DP) aspirant for the November 27 race.
According to Gachagua, the decision was made to build alliances with like-minded parties within the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

He also cited respect for DP leader Justin Muturi, describing him as an experienced leader with the capacity to retain the seat.
However, the move triggered backlash after Duncan Mbui, who was unveiled as the DCP candidate for Mbeere North, ditched the party and declared he would run as an independent. Mbui accused Gachagua of turning DCP into a “members’ club” meant to frustrate the ambitions of genuine aspirants.
Kaluma declares Gachagua finished
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has lined up multiple contests on November 27, including six parliamentary races, 16 ward seats, and a senatorial by-election in Baringo County.
Kaluma now insists that Gachagua’s refusal to front DCP candidates exposes his weakness and fear of the ballot.
With the legislator openly declaring that the former Deputy President’s destiny is sealed “forever,” the mini polls are shaping up to be a brutal litmus test for Gachagua’s survival in national politics.
