Kajiado North MP proposes banning leaders from contesting for making rigging claims
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 20, 2025Kajiado North Member of Parliament Onesmus Ngogoyo has called for stern action to be taken against Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow following her recent remarks suggesting that the Kenya Kwanza administration would rig the 2027 general elections if it appeared they were losing.
Speaking during a church service in Suburbia, Kajiado County, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, the legislator urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take decisive steps against any individuals who publicly admit or threaten to take part in election malpractice.
He argued that such individuals, whether close to the presidency or serving in elective office, should be barred from contesting or being on the ballot in future elections.
“Ile IEBC ambayo imeunda tuko na Imani nayo, lakini tunaomba ukisikia mtu akisema tutaiba kura na ni mbunge, ukisikia mtu akisema ati wataongezea kura, huyu ako na nia ya kuvuruga amani. Huyo si mtu mzuri,” Ngongoyo stated.
The MP emphasised that the commission has both the responsibility and the legal mandate to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, including preventing any individuals who undermine democratic principles from participating in elections.
“We are calling on the IEBC to identify the elements that want to disrupt peace, including members of parliament or agents of the presidency. They should not be allowed to participate in an election that they confess they will participate in stealing the votes,“ he added
He further expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to conduct a free, fair, and credible election in 2027, urging Kenyans to support institutions tasked with safeguarding the country’s democratic future.
This comes just days after Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow said on July 12, 2025, that leaders from the North-Eastern region would do whatever it takes to ensure Ruto is re-elected in 2027.
Fatuma Jehow’s remarks
Speaking during a public meeting in Wajir on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Jehow said, “Sisi wabunge wa North Eastern maneno ya President, tunasema ‘tutam’, hata kama hatutakua na votes tutamwibia… hio si siri.”

(Translation: “We, MPs from North Eastern, support the President. Even if we don’t have the votes, we will steal them for him… that’s no secret.”)
