Inspector General Japhet Koome resigns

Inspector General (IG) of Police Japhet Koome has resigned.

Koome tendered his resignation to President William Ruto who designated Douglas Kanja, the deputy police IG as the acting IG.

“His Excellency Hon William Samoei Ruto, PhD, CGH, President and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, has on this 12th day of July, 2024, accepted the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH, as the Inspector General of the National Police Service,” President Ruto announced.

“Pending the nomination, parliamentary approval and appointment of the Inspector General of the National Police Service, the Head of State has, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act,  designated Mr. Douglas Kanja, CBS the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service.”

Similarly, the president has announced the redeployment of Deputy Inspector General, Administration Police Service, Noor Gabow within the public service.

James Kamau has been appointed to replace Gabow as the acting IG.

“In accordance with Section 17 of the National Police Service Act, His Excellency the President has caused there deployment of Noor Gabow, CBS within the Public Service,”Ruto added in his statement.

Ruto has also appointed Eliud Langat as the Acting Deputy Inspecto General of the Kenya Police Service.
