The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The announcement was made in line with the commission’s constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

In a press statement released on Thursday, 28th August 2025, the IEBC emphasised that the voter registration exercise is a vital step in ensuring every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections.

The Commission particularly encouraged young people who have recently attained the age of 18, as well as citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter details, to take advantage of the exercise.

Preparations

Ahead of the September rollout, the IEBC has already begun implementing key preparatory measures to ensure the voter registration process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent. Among the tasks underway is the mapping of registration centres, which involves verifying both existing and proposed centres to make them accessible across the country.

“In readiness for the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise, the Commission has initiated a series of preparatory activities to ensure the process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent,” the statement read.

The commission has also embarked on stakeholder engagement forums at the constituency level aimed at raising awareness and promoting public participation. These engagements are seen as a crucial step in boosting turnout, particularly among first-time voters.

In addition, the IEBC is consolidating geospatial data at constituency, county, and national levels to guide effective resource planning. The Commission is also preparing and testing the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits, which will be central to the registration process.

The IEBC has urged Kenyans to take advantage of this registration period, stressing that the strength of the country’s democracy lies in the active participation of its citizens. With elections being the cornerstone of democratic governance, registering as a voter remains the first and most critical step.

The commission further reiterated its commitment to delivering a transparent and credible process as the country gradually prepares for the next general elections.
