Ichung’wah defends Kindiki, hits out at politicians fueling tribalism
By William Muthama, August 2, 2025National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has issued a stern warning to politicians propagating tribal politics, calling for unity and economic progress above ethnic or regional affiliations.
Speaking during an empowerment forum on Saturday, 2 August 2025, in Molo, Nakuru County, Ichung’wah emphasised that Kenya’s diversity should be a strength, not a tool for division.
“We must not allow anyone to bring division amongst us based on where we come from or what geographical features we see in our neighbourhoods,” he said.
Ichung’wah underscored that political rhetoric centred on tribal identity only derails national progress. He urged leaders to focus on economic empowerment and national cohesion. “We are richer as a nation when we are united and focused on the development of our people,” he stated.
Referencing remarks by Molo MP Kuria Kimani about local landmarks like Mutiume Hill, Ichung’wah pointed out that such differences should not be used to separate Kenyans. “Others may see Menengai Crater, others Mutiume, others Ngong Hills. That’s just geography it should unite us, not divide us.”
The Kikuyu MP said Kenya must rise above identity politics to achieve its development goals. “We cannot talk of a united country while promoting tribal narratives. Let us reject such politics completely,” he warned.
Ichung’wah also lauded Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who was present at the event, for his role in crafting the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, saying it prioritised economic transformation over political theatrics.
“Kindiki never ran for office, yet his input shaped our direction as Kenya Kwanza. That is the kind of leadership we need, ideas, not tribes,” Ichung’wah said.
He urged politicians across the board to embrace a nationalistic approach and avoid pitting regions against one another. “The people want jobs, food, education not tribal wars,” he said.
The Majority Leader concluded by calling on Kenyans to hold leaders accountable and reject anyone sowing division for personal gain. “Let unity be our message, and progress our shared mission,” he declared.
