Three Special Services Unit detectives have been arrested for allegedly robbing a company in Matuu of gas cylinders worth over Sh300,000.
Writing on their Twitter account on Tuesday, August 4, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said their colleagues were arrested over the robbery at Baraka Gas Company in Matuu, Machakos County on the night of July 31.
“Having been tipped of the said company illegally refilled cylinders from various gas companies behind locked doors after curfew hours, the team of three constables; William Mutua, Henry Maitai & Jonathan Sankale organized and executed a raid on the facility,” said DCI.
Police said the thieving detectives intercepted the company’s surveillance car where on board was the manager and gained access to the premises.
According to the police, the detectives confiscated mobile phones from all the workers but the owner called seeking to talk to one of his workers.
Police zeroed in on the suspects after tracking Ksh370,000 transacted in M-Pesa to their phone lines.
“A total of Kshs. 370,000 was transferred to a Mpesa till number, an agent number, and two Safaricom lines in various locations, all which were traced back to the suspects,” said DCI.
