Floods continue to wreak havoc in Baringo South after homes of hundreds of families were submerged when River Perkera burst its banks.

The most affected areas are in Ngambo and Salabani Ilchamus Ward where thousands have been forced to flee their homes.

Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren appealed for aid from the national government as the situation is dire.

Former electoral commissioner, Thomas Letangule, said that 600 families have been displaced with many in dire need of medicine, food and shelter.

Flooding caused by heavy rains has killed more than 260 people across East Africa with Kenya being the hardest hit.

One of the worst-hit areas in Kenya is the Elgeyo-Marakwet-Pokot County border where flash floods swept away a trading centre, police post and schools. Several deaths were reported.

In Rwanda, 55 people have died and floods have killed 16 in Somalia. In Uganda high water levels have trapped an estimated 200 patients inside a hospital.

East African countries have also been hit by a locust invasion and Covid-19.
