Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti was on Friday morning flown to Nairobi for treatment after he was taken ill on Thursday evening.

The county chief fell ill shortly after presiding over a bursary-distribution function at Orero Boys’ High School in Homa Bay County.

The governor is said to have stayed at the event until it ended, but did not join other guests for lunch.

Awiti was taken to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, where he was treated, and, thereafter, flown to the hospital’s sister facility in Nairobi.

The medical superintendent at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, Dr Sam Oula, confirmed that the county boss had been admitted at the facility.

Dr Oula said Awiti, who is in a stable condition, was transferred to Nairobi for specialised care.

The governor resumed work last week after a three-month sick leave.

Awiti was previously admitted at a hospital in Germany with eye complications.
