Chief Justice Martha Koome has confirmed the death of High Court Judge David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, CJ Koome expressed sadness on the passing of the High Court judge who also served as a Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission.

The President of the Apex Court indicated that the Judiciary has been heartbroken by Majanja’s demise.

In her statement, CJ Koome further sent heartfelt condolences to the deceased family, friends and the entire Judiciary.

“We are all heartbroken,” CJ Koome stated.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Judiciary and JSC fraternity during this time of deep sorrow and sadness,” she added.

Majanja’s contribution

According to CJ Koome, the late Majanja will be remembered as a towering figure in the development of the transformative post-2010 jurisprudence.

Koome described Majanja as a crucial pillar in the institution-building of the JSC and the Judiciary.

“We stand in solidarity with the family, friends, and the entire Judiciary and JSC community during this very difficult period of mourning. The Judiciary and JSC family call for sensitivity and compassion as we come to terms with this sudden loss and share in grief with one another and with the people of Kenya.”

Koome promised to share more information regarding Majanja’s death.
