A General Service Unit (GSU) officer has been shot and killed after being accosted by gunmen at the Wilson Airport.

According to a police constable who survived the Saturday night attack, Mr Samson Morongo, they were at the airport’s watch tower when two men in police uniform approached them at about 8 pm.

Mr Morongo said their assailants claimed they needed help since the vehicle they were travelling in had developed a mechanical problem at the nearby bypass.

After walking about 200m from the watch tower, they were joined by two other men, also in police uniform but the four immediately turned against them.

In the ensuing commotion, Mr Morongo said they were overpowered and his colleague fatally shot.

The gunmen stole their two rifles, two AK-47 guns each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
