Githurai MCA: I won’t vie again if people support my decision to resign
By Cynthia Lodite, September 22, 2025The Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly (MCA), Mwangi Waithira, has announced that he will not vie again if the people of Githurai support his decision to resign.
The MCA made his remarks on Monday, September 22, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, where he maintained his stand on tendering his resignation to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.

According to the Githurai 44 MCA, he has maintained that after his decision to resign is fully accepted, should the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announce a by-election, he will not be involved.
“Nimesema vitu hasifanyiki kwa this regime, na ata IEBC ikatangaza sahi, mimi siye siwezi simama. Mimi nitangoja next election kama bado nitakuwa interested,” Waithira said.
“Na nisema hivi, kama ingekuwa ni interests zangu, mimi mwenyewe, ningenyamaza, nikae chini na familia yangu, nipokeange tu mushahara nisahau na watu wa Githurai,” he added.
The MCA also dismissed remarks that his decision to resign was a mere threat, while confirming that indeed once the residents back his decision in a scheduled meeting with Giturahi residents on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, then he will step down immediately.
“Resignation yangu sio vitisho tukifanaya mkutano wa kesho watu wa Githurai waniambie MCA endelea na resignation, ata sitangojea date one nitaresign lakini wakiniambia tu ngoja hio date one tuone kama kuna kazi itafanyika,” he noted.
Wathira further announced that he does not want to be affiliated with any aspiring politician as well nor be involved in any electoral decisions once his resignation decision is wholly welcomed.
‘If I resign today, by 1st November, kutakua na by-elections ita fanywa, sita taka kujuhuthisha kamwe, nitakaa kando kabisa, hata watu wakijaribu kuniomba niwapatie maoni yangu tumchague nani, nitatoka kabisa,” Waithira said.
Why he wants to resgin
The Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Waithira recently stated that he had tendered his resignation letter, citing Nairobi County government’s failure to deliver on key development projects.
“Ile kitu inanikasirisha ni kwamba ile kitu nilichaguliwa kufanya haifanyiki… watu wa Githurai wanangoja maendeleo ilhali kuna frustrations,” he said.
Waithira said he was disheartened by the county government’s failure to deliver on key projects promised to Githurai residents.
“Niko na shida na vile kaunti inaendelezwa ata nazungumza kwa niaba wa MCAs wengine ambao wanaogopa kwa sababu ya loans ambao wako nazo,” stated Waithira.
Residents of Githurai expressed disappointment at his departure, but many echoed his concerns. They cited the lack of progress on several critical projects, including the upgrading of the Githurai Level 3 Hospital, construction of access roads, a local market, and a long-promised sports ground.
