A young man from Kanduyi Constituency has left President William Ruto in stitches after he openly admitted to taking inspiration from the president’s famous chicken-selling story when venturing into business.

Speaking during the launch of the NYOTA Project at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday, November 7, 2025, Isaac Juma Busoro narrated how he benefited from the government-backed Kenya Youth Employment Opportunities Project (KYEOP) in 2022.

“Your Excellency, my dear president. Naitwa Isaac Juma Busoro. Natoka pale Bungoma, Kanduyi Constituency.

“Mimi nimekua beneficiary wa KYEOP ambayo ilikua 2021/2022. Tulifundishwa about business training. When we finished that course, we were given Ksh18,000.

“I wondered what business I could start with Ksh18,000. But then I decided to challenge my president, who was a chicken seller. I ventured into pig farming,” Busoro said, leaving the crowd and the president in laughter.

He added that after proving his commitment, the group later received another grant of Ksh20,000 to expand their projects.

Busoro said his business had since grown, and he credited his success to the motivation he drew from Ruto’s life story and the support from KYEOP.

Continued support

Responding to Busoro’s remarks, President William Ruto praised the young entrepreneur for his courage and creativity.

He assured young people across the country that his government would continue supporting their dreams through initiatives such as the newly launched NYOTA Fund.

“Apart from qualifying for the initial Ksh25,000, we will walk with you on your journey until you are able to qualify for up to Ksh200,000,” said Ruto.

“In our society, we often forget those at the bottom of the pyramid, and this fund is designed to ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.
