Gachagua to hold rally at Kamukunji Grounds on his return from US

The Democracy for Citizens’ Party Leader, Rigathi Gachagua, will hold a mega rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi upon his arrival on Thursday, August 20, 2025.

Speaking to Kameme TV on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Irungu Nyakera, who is the patron for DCP in Nairobi, asked not less than 10,000 Kenyans to come out in large numbers to welcome their leader.

Roadside rallies planned

Nyakera confirmed that Gachagua’s arrival would be marked with a series of roadside rallies across Nairobi before the grand finale at Kamukunji.

“We want to have at least 10,000 people who will receive and celebrate him once he arrives at the JKIA. From there, we will hold roadside rallies within Nairobi towns and finally culminate at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi,” Nyakera said.

He stressed that the Kamukunji rally would not only celebrate Gachagua’s return but also signal the strength of the Democracy for Citizens’ Party, which has been positioning itself as a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 elections.

Security agencies on alert

The development comes amid reports that security agencies have been put on high alert over fears that some groups may attempt to use Gachagua’s return to incite chaos and mayhem.

Nyakera, however, urged supporters to remain calm and avoid violence.

“Our message is clear. We want a peaceful reception and a demonstration of unity. Gachagua has always advocated for peaceful political expression,” he stated.

Political observers say the planned Kamukunji rally is being viewed as the “mother of all rallies”, given Gachagua’s recent fallout with President William Ruto and his vocal criticism of government policies.

His return is expected to reignite debates on police brutality, the state of devolution, and accountability within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Nyakera reassured Kenyans that the DCP’s aim was not to provoke unrest but to celebrate their leader’s comeback in a peaceful yet powerful show of numbers.

“We want to show the country that Rigathi Gachagua remains a force, one who can ask the hard questions and champion issues affecting ordinary Kenyans,” he added.
