Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that his wife, Pastor Dorcas, had warned him about the true nature of President William Ruto before he fully trusted him.

Speaking at the launch of Martha Karua’s rebranded People’s Liberation Party on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Gachagua admitted that Ruto’s charm and political promises had deceived him, something Pastor Dorcas had cautioned him about in private.

Gachagua recalled that during Ruto’s visits to their home, Pastor Dorcas had raised concerns about the president’s character, asking if Gachagua truly knew him.

He explained that, at the time, he had dismissed her warnings, but in hindsight, he now sees the truth in what she said.

“Pastor Dorcas once asked me, ‘Do you really know this man well?’ I told her I did, and she asked again, ‘Are you sure?’ I insisted that I knew him, but now I see – I was wrong. Ruto is a fraud, and we will tell it to the people of Kenya. The truth will come out, and Kenyans will know who he really is,” Gachagua revealed.

Land deals and betrayal

While opening up about the past, Gachagua raised concerns about the sale of public land under Ruto’s administration, alleging that valuable parcels of land, including prison land in Nairobi West, have been sold off to private investors.

He claimed these transactions are deceptive, involving money deducted from the public’s payslips, with properties being sold back to Kenyans under questionable circumstances.

“If you check the prison land here in Nairobi West, it’s worth a trillion shillings. Someone is given this land to build houses, but these houses are being built with money taken from people’s payslips and then sold back to them. The land isn’t being given out for free – President Ruto and his people have sold all the prison land,” Gachagua said, visibly frustrated by what he described as a land grab at the expense of the public.

He further explained that this scheme would see prisons relocated to other areas at enormous costs, raising doubts about the government’s priorities.

“We cannot agree on how we give public land to investors without proper consideration. This is a scheme to sell all the prison land and then relocate the prisons elsewhere, which will come at an even greater cost,” he said.

“There’s a lot going on, and I will continue revealing it all, little by little.”

Backing Martha Karua

Gachagua also threw his weight behind Martha Karua, stating that she was now their political mother and a unifying force for leaders who had been sidelined or oppressed by the current administration.

He dismissed past political rivalries between them, stating that their previous battles were merely the result of being on different sides of the political divide.

“We have agreed that Martha Karua will be our mother. Many people thought I could never work with her because we were once political rivals. But we were never enemies—we were just on different paths. I had wished we were in one team, and today we are,” he said.

In a fiery conclusion, Gachagua told opposition leaders and those facing political persecution not to be afraid, warning that Ruto had already shed the blood of Kenyan youth and that any further sacrifices would only fuel the fight for change.

“Our leaders, those of you suffering, don’t worry. Even if he sheds our blood, hasn’t he already shed the blood of Gen Z? The blood he spills will only water the tree of liberation. We must be ready to sacrifice as leaders in this country,” he declared.
