Gachagua homecoming: Ngunjiri explains why chaos might have been scripted
By David Nthua, August 22, 2025Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has said there is a possibility that Thursday’s melee witnessed during the homecoming of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was scripted.
Speaking to one of the local radio stations on Friday, August 22, 2025, Ngunjiri suggested that the ugly scenes may have been deliberately planned by rival politicians with 2027 ambitions, so that Gachagua or even the government could shoulder the blame.
Ngunjiri observed that the clashes did not emerge out of a vacuum but may have been linked to the ongoing power realignments in the country.
He noted that several politicians had used Gachagua’s return to showcase their influence ahead of the 2027 general elections, a move he believes could easily stir rival camps to incite violence.
“Don’t blame Gachagua or the government; even the politicians themselves, the way they set themselves up, trying to show they are present with their supporters.
“This can also bring clashes, which we are seeing. This is politics. We all saw some leaders who have 2027 aspirations, openly campaigning for various seats in the 2027 poll.

“What do you think will prevent their opponents from planning chaos, so that Gachagua or the government can be blamed?” Ngunjiri said.
Chaos afternath
Ngunjiri urged leaders to act responsibly during such high-profile political gatherings, adding that scripting chaos only erodes public trust and risks painting Gachagua or the state as instigators when they may not be to blame.
The remarks come a day after heightened drama in Nairobi and its environs as thousands of supporters poured out to receive Gachagua.
Security agencies have since maintained that investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the disturbances.
