Throughout the ceremony, Gachagua remained composed, observing the proceedings with a palpable sense of empathy as pastors took turns to intercede for the lives of the deceased.

Other leaders who also attended included Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia and former Kigumo MP Jamleck Irungu, who spoke warmly about Gachagua and pledged their continued support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gachagua was also accompanied by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who spoke passionately in his support, praising Gachagua while accusing President William Ruto of being deceitful and unafraid to mislead the public.

Nyutu was the one who introduced Gachagua, and as he rose, the mourners erupted in jubilant applause.

Grisly accident

The funeral comes six days after the accident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Wacengu Bridge along the River Kiama.

Police reports indicated that the victims, members of the same extended family from Ndia village, Kariara Ward, were returning from a dowry ceremony in the Nazareth area of Kiambu County.

Among the deceased were a husband and wife, underscoring the devastating loss the community has endured.

Six other passengers survived the accident but sustained injuries and were rushed to Kirwara Hospital and Murang’a Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

At the time, authorities said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and confirmed that the bodies had been transferred to a local mortuary pending further procedures.
