Flying to the bank! More Ruto’s millions for Harambee Stars as Kenya beat Zambia

By , August 17, 2025

Harambee Stars players are set for a massive windfall after defeating Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025, to secure a spot in the CHAN quarterfinals.

Each player will pocket Ksh2.5 million. President William Ruto had earlier in the week promised to increase the team’s incentives after beating Morocco. In addition, Ruto promised to award each Harambee Stars player Ksh1 million and an affordable housing unit should they secure a victory in the quarter-final

“We’ve also agreed on rewards: a win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player Ksh2.5 million. If they triumph in the quarterfinals, each will be gifted Ksh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice,” Ruto said.

Earlier Morocco reward

This is not the first time the team has been handsomely rewarded during the tournament. Harambee Stars players pocketed Ksh1 million each for their commanding victory against Morocco on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The cash prize was part of Ruto’s hefty package promised to the squad when he visited their camp before the continental showdown.

Steady cash flow

Since the start of CHAN, Harambee Stars players have been reaping big from their performances. On August 7, 2025, they received Ksh500,000 each after a draw with Angola, while on August 3, 2025, every player was awarded Ksh1 million following their win against DR Congo.

Confirming the disbursement of the funds, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted: “The Sports Ministry has already disbursed the funds to all 27 players and 15 technical bench members.”

With Sunday’s victory against Zambia, Harambee Stars are now set to face Madagascar in the quarterfinals.

Kenya will now be hoping to extend their dream run as they take on Madagascar, with the prospect of more rewards and glory hanging in the balance.
