Duale strikes new deal to reduce cancer treatment cost
By Cynthia Lodite, July 28, 2025Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced the government partnership with a private company to help reduce the cost of cancer treatment in Kenya.
According to the Health CS, the government has just signed a memorandum of understanding with Roche Pharmaceuticals, a private company, resulting in a significant cut in the cost of cancer treatment.
“I want to say it with a lot of pride that we have signed an MOU with Roche, one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies,” Duale explained.
Additionally, according to the Health CS, the upcoming cancer treatment rates will reduce to Ksh40,000 per session and shall be fully covered by SHA; hence, there will be no co-payment.
“This partnership we have with Roche has reduced the cost of treatment from Ksh120,000 to Ksh40,000 per session, fully covered by SHA,” said Duale.
CS Duale made his remarks during the 2nd National Cancer Summit 2025 on Monday, July 28, 2025, at The Edge Convention Centre, Nairobi.

Duale Calls on Kenyans to Enrol in SHA
Duale also noted that the therapy will be available at all SHA contracted health facilities nationwide and that they can be found in public, private and faith-based hospitals.
“These therapies will be available across all SHA contracted health care facilities across the country. They can be found in Public, Private and faith-based health facilities, and this is to ensure equitable nationwide access,” stated Duale.
The CS further called upon other pharmaceutical companies to join the government in a bid to bring affordable health care to Kenyans.
“The ministry under my leadership encourages other Pharmaceutical partners present here and those who are listening to us, to join in expanding access to affordable patient-oriented and high-quality cancer care,” noted Duale.
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Health, the three-day summit focuses on reviewing cancer prevention efforts, advancing quality care, and accelerating UHC through collaboration.
