“My dear darling, father of my children, a great man, my hero. Very intelligent. No corruption in his life. That man sleeping in that casket is a wonderful man,” she said in her moving tribute.
She added that her late husband deserves respect, noting that he lived a full life and left behind a legacy of integrity. “He needs respect because he walked the walk of life, and I am 100 per cent sure that he is in a better place,” she said.
The widow recalled that she always called him “mzee” in his later years, a reflection of their advancing age, even though in their younger days they called each other “darling”. She described Otieno as a quiet man, friendly to his family, and a dependable partner.
“My husband is a very quiet person. Very friendly to his family. We are blessed with six children and 13 grandchildren. The boys are my boyfriends, and the girls are my girlfriends. Some of them look like mzee,” she said.

She explained that she would only use the word “was” when he is laid fully to rest, adding that in her heart, he remains her husband. At 75 years old, she said she is grateful for the years they shared, noting that Otieno lived up to the values of discipline and honesty throughout his life.
Man of integrity
In her final words, she expressed gratitude for the journey they had together and the family they raised. She said she was at peace sending him off to rest, confident that he had lived a meaningful and respectable life.
“I am very grateful to send my husband to go and rest,” she said.
Dalmas Otieno, who died at the age of 80, leaves behind a family that described him as a hero, a man of intelligence, and above all, one who never allowed corruption to define his life.
