CS Ruku hits out at Gachagua’s camp over attacks on Waiguru and Mbarire

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has condemned what he described as “insult-filled, hostile, and deceptive utterances” from leaders allied to the United Opposition during their Saturday rallies in Embu and Kirinyaga Counties.

Ruku took issue with the opposition brigade led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing them of using public forums to malign elected leaders and distort the government’s development record.

Speaking after attending a Sunday church service on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Full Gospel Church in Mbeere North, Embu County, the CS said the opposition was pursuing a campaign built on anger, vengeance, and falsehoods rather than offering credible policy ideas.

He cited their public speeches in Makutano, Kiritiri, Runyenjes, and Embu Town, where they claimed a lack of government projects despite standing near major ongoing works.

“They hurled insults at Engineer Nebart Muriuki, the Mbeere South MP, Runyenjes MP Eric Muchangi, and even demeaned Governors Cecily Mbarire and Anne Waiguru, leaders who are diligently serving their people instead of engaging in petty politics,” the CS stated.

He criticised the opposition’s contradictions, noting that their accusations came as they stood beside multi-million-shilling government projects.

The CS further accused the opposition of fueling unrest, referring to the incident in Runyenjes where a private firearm holder allegedly opened fire and an MP was caught on camera brandishing a crude weapon while chasing members of the public.

“This is disgraceful conduct. Leaders must rise above political drama and promote peace, especially as we head into the Mbeere North by-election,” Ruku stated.

He called on opposition figures to embrace calm and issue-oriented campaigns, asserting that Mbeere North residents had already decided to back UDA candidate Leo Muriuki wa Muthende, whom he described as the natural successor of the constituency’s transformative agenda he himself once spearheaded before joining the Cabinet.

He urged leaders across the political divide to prioritise unity and service to the people rather than division and hostility.
